TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.

• • WADDELL'S HEW SHOP. It is always pleasing to hear a business man 7 »ay tbat "on account of increasing trade he ? has been oompolled to roinovo to larger premises," uud the many persona who have ' coteH Mr Waddell, tailor and outfitter, stating 1 this admired greatly the Bplendid show his new shop made under brilliant gas light on ' Saturday night. The shop was formerly 1 occupied by Mi- Hibbard, tho grocor, but has 3 been so muoh altered to meet new requirements as to be hardly recognisable. The 1 architects for the alterations were Messrs ! Meason and Marohant, and the contractors, Messrs Targuse and Pringle, who hate put exceptionally sterling work into the job. An entirely new front has been put in the shop, 1 the larger window being 11 feet in height by 5 8 feet wide, and tho smaller one 11 feet by ' 4 feet, with a four feet return to provide the main entrance ; all tho windows being of tho ' bast plate glass. Tho fittings in the windows ) aro very complete, and as the dressing spaoo is 7 foet wide by ahout 9 feet long and 11 feet 1 hi«h, the fino" display on Saturday night ehoweu what ampls room is given to make ' tho windowo and the niaes of tweeds, hsts, ' mercery, etc., look their very boat. On the ! loft hand side of the entrance door, and inside the shop, is a broad table, and ahoio it tier upon tier of shelving, finishod off with a nice cornice. All this side of the shop is devoted to the display of tweeds. At the : hack of the shop are the bat shelves, 18 ' inches wide, and on the right hand Bide are 1 tho shelves (20 inches wido) for the roception ' of hoisery. A well-iinished^ooutiter runs tbe length of tho shop, and, like tho tweed table, 1 shelving, etc , is made of selected kauri, turned out in truo workmanlike style. In thecontroof the shop aro placed tablos on which collars, ties, etc., arranged with such iaste as is in keeping with the window display, und which reflect credit on Mr Crerar, and his assistants. Going out of tho main shop tho department presided over by Mr Candlish, the firm's cutter, are entered, which consists of fitting, cutting, shrinking, store, and work roons (three), tho latter taisiDg in all tho 1 upstairs portion of the bniiding, and the room overlooking tho main street boing uncommonly hirge and convenient. The whole establishment is well lit throughout, and capitally ventilated, und will compare Tory favourably with any of Biniiiar size in the colony. We may add here that the plumbing and paintiDg work was entrusted to Mr James Oraigie, and, lika the carpentery work, has > beon faithfully carried out.
