The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,108,000 quarters, and for the Continent 2,416,000. The rates for money are declining owing to a plentiful supply of gold. Three months' bills are discounted at 2J per cent. Shares m the Union Steamship Company, £11 10a ; New Zealand Shipping Company, £4 ; Shaw Saville and Albion Company, £9 10a. Captain Vernoy, who was sentenced to a year's imprisonment for an offence against a female, haa given Mios Baskett, the young lady who was enticed to Paris by the ivoman Emily Floreut, the sum of £400. ENGLAND AND PORTUGAL. The World states that it is probable that before autumn war will ensue between Great Britain and Portugal over the South African colonies ; also that the English troops at tho Cape are being augmented, and others told, to be m readiness.
