(By Telegraph.) WBLLIHGTON. Oct. 17. The inquest on the fire at the old Govern* ment printing office, occnpied the coroner al' day. The evidence abowed that tbe fire broke out m tbe lithographic department, but beyond this there was no evidence to show , the origin of the fire, and the jury accordingly found an open verdict. The following hare pasted their examination as mine managers : — H. ]?. Logan, Ficton ; W. Home, Coromandel ; T. Mangan, Thomeo ; M. Hornick, Beefton ; under tbe Coal Mines Act, D. Jebson, Canterbury. The cose against Mexicans and Indians lately connected with Wirth's show, of steal> ing property belonging to the firm, was dismissed. Further proceedings are likely to arise out of these cases. At the inquest on Charles Neilson, who committed suicide at the asylum, a verdict was returned of suicide whilst of unsound mind. The evidence showed that the doctors m committing him noted on the certificate that he was of suicidal tendency, and be was, therefore, placed m a padded room. He, however, managed to elude the vigilance of the warders, and by means of a sheet, hanged bimeelf to one of the ventilators. GHBISTCHtfBOH, Oct. 17. It appeared that a formal conviction had not been entered up, and Mr Justice Denniston granted a rule nisi m respect of the conviction when entered up. DOTTBDIir, Oct. 17. His Excellency the Governor and private aecretary left this morning for the lakes District and will return m a few days. Lord Onslow has rented a house on the hill above St. Clair for the summer, and it will shortly be occupied by Lady Onslow and her daughters. Lord Onslow intends going through the King Country next month and will he joined at Auckland by tbe Countess, tbe children remaining m Dunedio. A house, is also to be taken at Cbristchurch. At tbe inquest on the body of Henry Dixon who committed suicide by blowing out bis brains with dynamite a verdict was returned tbat the deceased killed himself while m a state of despondency.
