GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

Tho monthly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday la-t, there baing present Messrs K. R. FlatmaD.K. Brophy, A.Motcalf and J. KeHand. This beiug tho first . meeting since the annual meeting of ratepayers and, the re election of Sicsera Kelland and Metcalf, the election of chairman for tho' ensuing year took place, when Mr Flatman was reelected. An apology for non-attendance from Mr Deßenzy was read and accepted. Tbe following tenders were received for contract No. 308, repairs to Geraldine and Pleasant Valley road : B. Trumper, £23 ; M. Brophy, £19 ; M. Lawler, £16 15s j J. Fifield, £16 (accepted). The following correspondence received .woe read and dealt with : — From Mr J. Brown, Woodbury, asking for loise ot plantation reservo. —After considerablo discußaion on tho advisibility or otherwise of letting such reserves, it was decided to refuso the request. From Mr X, Ds,w<s, Washdyke, asking for a road along th's hill m front of Rhubarb Flat to enable him to get to his bush.—Tendors to be called for same. Mr W. Makepeace Howe interviewed the board for the purpo3e.o£ getting a crossing made leading to a part of bU land ha desired to crop. Ho also requested that, as there was a quantity of manuka scrub on the road, some assistance might be given him to have tho aame removed, so as to euable a dray to pass along tha ro&d. — The overseer to report at next meeting. Notice to be given to Mr Tagg to remove fence and gate from the road. Copies of resolutions passed at the late Conference were laid on the table. The overseer's report was read as. followa : — : " lhe work m hand has made fair progresi during the month. The new road at the Waihi bush will be completed m two neelu from date. Mr Cochrane has been supplied with a timber culvert for his entrance from Uae'aroad. The Orari bridge road, Wbod : bury, and one or two other roads have been repaired with broken metal and shingle. ■ " lhe Pleasant Valley road wants Bhingle repairs, and formation attending to m places where tho sides are much worn down. " A new seam of coal has been openod out m Beautiful Valley. I have sent up the daymen to make the track passable to tbe pit, "Aedirectedl have drawn out an agreement for the purchase of a portion of Mr T.Sugme's section at Belfield village settlement, and submit same for approval. Four chains of fencing will be required to fence the boundary of Sugrue'a section. " Mr Wigley has. applied to have the boulders picked off from the sides of the Enkahu Valley road, where the gone has been cleared. " As instructed I have prepared a plau for a new bridge over tha Kakahu main creek, and have ordered the ironwork. I have some difficulty m procuring suitable timber, but I think all will be ready for tenders at next meeting of tUo board. " The oats contracted for by Mr Burke have been delivered into store. " I should advise that one oC the main streets m the Orari village settlement be formed, ao as to comply with the conditions under which tbe payments are made by the Land Board." In regard to the Pleasant Valley road it was decided that the work b 6 done. The action taken by the overseer m reference to the cutting of a track to the coal pit at Beantifnl Valley was approved of. The work to be done as applied for by Mr Wigley at Kakahu Valley when the gorse ib cleared off. Tenders to be called for the erection of Kakahu bridge, to be m by next board day. A road to be formed m tho Orari village settlement at a suitable time. Accounts amounting to £99 17s 3d were passed for payment. Mr B. Bayley interviewed the board m reference to shifting part of the fence on his lacd nearer to the creek. The board granted the request provided that Ur Baylej bad the work done to the satisfaction of the overseer. It was resolved that the Mr T. Bates be informed that unless his gorge fence is cut on 1 ! the gorse growing m front of hiß lant) be grubbed up within ten days from date, legal proceedings will be taken against him to enforce same. The meeting then ended.
