I Tho auction of the late Andrew Grnnl'u nnded properties by Messrs Griicie, Maclean and Oo.on Saturday was largely attended, but very little business was done m the freoholds. Tho oxecutore, it was explained, desired to sell the properties rathor than carry them on m tho interest of the legators, aod therefore would sell at anything like a fair prioe. Mr J. Hay, tho vendors solicitor, read tho descriptions of the lots and the oonditions of sale, and Mr D. Maclean was auctioneer. BpringQold, formerly tho homettoad of tbo I'aterson estate ono of the very earliest selections m the Temukadiatrict, 442 acres, put up m ono 'ot elicited no bid, and it was then offered m sections. "J ho first lot, 95 acres of stubble, win stnrfed at£lG and passed mat £13 10s. Tho second lot, fiO acres, started ct £L 6 and run up to £22, at which it was knocked down to Mr Henry Lee. The third lot was the homestead, Gl acres, With all tho farm buildings This was started at £24, bid up to £27 10j and wnsthon passed. Thrcb other lots of GO, 67, and 100 aoros wore itatted at £15, and pnsßod m at £18, £10, and £17 10s. The Washdyko furm of 198 acres with Gotlajje, hung fire, but at length was started at £12, run ud to £15, nnd then withdrawn- An odd paddock of 11 acres, next to tho Wiwlldj-lio imlojurd., 2 acres of which are leased to the saloyurds company at £26 aycur — a good accommodation paddock, with wator-ruoo through it — was sturlod at £20 and paseod m at £24. No offer was made for 1200 acres of grazing land just over tho Or.iri, opposite Mr MaDonald's homestead. The goodwill of a High School roacrro near Milford, 147 aorof, ront 10s Gd an acre, loaso 12 years to run, aftor a long wait wns started nt £30, run up to £140 and then withdrawn. IToj 100 acres of plantation at tho Hinds, near tho railway station, offora from 20s up to 35 1 an aero wcro mndo, and declined. Mr Mucloan said ho could not compliment those present on their bidding ; perhaps they woufd show moro anxiety to secure some of the properties when thoy oamo to him lutpr on to buy privately. The first bid was £5000, and thn price wao run ;up by a very limited number of bidders by £100'sto £GSOO, at which 1 flguro Mr W. Pringlo bocame tho purchaser. j
