The secretnry was instructed to wnto to Mr Egan and demand payment. Tho question of treating as outpatients I persons who can afford to pay, and who, I after treatment, refused to pay (illustratod by a case mentioned), created a discussion, the outcome being that the secretary and steward wero directed to report at next meeting on the by-laws m exintenco relating to the issue of tickets to out- patients. On another caso mentioned Dr Lawson suggested that there should bo a by-law requiring payment to bo mado of all expenses m full for operations, by tboso who could afford it, instead of merely tho ordinary weokly charge. Mr F. W. Marchant attendcd»to confer with the board regarding the drainage of tho hospital, but owing to the small attendance, the conferenco was postponed till next month. The estimates for tho curront year, propared by a committee wore adopted. The receipts on hospital accounts m donations, subsidies on samo, rents and pntienta' payments wero estimated at £285 ; last year's receipts were £276. Tho estimated expenditure on the two hospitals, Timaru £2408 10a and Waimate £740, total £3143 10s. Tho cost last year was £3070. The estimated expenditure for charitable aid this year is £2520 ; as against tho coat last year £2477. Expenaos bring up the total estimmate for this year to £5987 ; as against a total cost last year of £5752. Included m tho total expenditure is a deficiency at tho 3Ut of March last of £181. The amount to ba levied from the local bodies thia year is a few pounds less than last year, £2738 10s instead of £2753 10s. Dr Lawson asked for six months leave to enable him to visit the Old Country, ho finding a satisfactory locum tenens, m Dr Thomas, of the s.s. Tongariro, und formerly ussUtunt medical officer of tho Middlesex County Hospital. — Tho inombers present agreed to support the application at Ihe next full meeting. The Board then rose.
