AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
Tho regular monthly meeting of the Arowhemia Town Board was held on Wednesday evening. Present : Messrs B. Leo (chairman), iC. Brown, H. Volendor, and A. Frew. The clerk conveyed Mr Ashwell's apologies for non'attendanco. Correspondence was rend from tho Proporty Tax Oommiasiouei" intimating that a voucher for tho sum of 18s 9d for ratos payable on Crown lands had been forwurded to the Troaaury for payment. From* tho sanio etuliog that a vouchor for £7 7a 2d for haliinco of subflidy under the Local Hodiea Powers and Finanoo Act had been forwuidod to tho Treasury for payment. From tho Treuaury Department advising romitting tho übovo amounts to board's credit at tho Bank of New Zealand, Tetnuka. From tho Timaru Harbour Board covering circular Bolting forth proposed echoino for collecting tho harbour rate, and asking (,ho board to signify its approval of same by resolution. Tho board roßolvod that, taking into consideration tho preoont low usfosnmont of tho town ilistrict.tho numerous small holdings, and tho difficulty m collecting rates olroady loviod.that it could not sco its way to approve of tho suggested ochomo. From the National Insurnnco Company, advising that tho promium of insurance on tho board's proporty would bo duo on April 25th. —Passed for payment. From the Crown Lands Commissioner slatjng that tho onm of £36 10a !)d had accrued to thfl board from sulcb undor doforral payment !ro« thp lot May, 1889, to January 31st, 18' JO, and asking that tho roads upon which it waß propoeed In expend tljio sum might ho marked on a map cuclo8O(l co that Mm board might bo entitled to rcccivo Uio minio.— 'i'ho ovoreccrto attend to tho matU'r, thn expenditure li; bo upon tho improvements of roiuls ulrmidy formed end cleaning of tho creek. ' The overseer was instructed to submit. CEtimates at next meeting of the distanco of wator tables that would require cleaning, and also of the probablo cosl. of mmo by divy labour, tlicb -ard intending, if poasiblo. tu let 3\ich work m future by contract. Ho was ulso instructed to report upon the condition of tho footpath m Studholmo street, and to havo a plunk replaced m Tavonder'n bridge. Accouuts amounting to £10 7s lOd, were passed for payment, and the board adjournod.
