Manton was passed m at 1700 guineas. Pearl Shell was bought by Mr S. While at 315 guineas. Necklet sold at 250 guineas. SENTENCED TO DEATH. A man named Batton, who on the 21st March was committed for trial for criminally outraging a girl who was lodging with him, under mo3t revolting circumstances, was to-day arraigned on the charge before tho Supremo Court, and upon a verdict of guilty being returned was sentenced to death. THE WHEAT MARKET. Tuscan wheat is selling at -Is lid. The cargo of wheat by tho Bte.nmer iJealatidia from San Francisco was sold here prior to its shipment, and is to go into consumption on its arrival. LOSS OF A SCHOONER. The Bchooner Mary Campbell, with a cargo of railway girders, bound from Clarence River (Grsfton) to Melbourne, sprung n leak when off Cape Hawke and was abandoned by the craw. When the latter were picked up by a passing steamer tho schooner was rapidly sinking. A NOMINAL SENTENCE. Mr 3 Corston, formerly of Auckland, was to-day convicted of n charge of bigamy, and sentenced to be imprisoned till the rising of the Court.
