ANNUAL ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

OR A SI SOUTH. There was a very good attendance of householder at thia school, and Mr Binskin, chairman of the retiring committee, presided. The report of the committee allowed that the school had made very good progress during [ the year, the number on the roll having inI creased from 63 to 73, ond the attendance I from 36 to 58. The school hod passed on excellent examination, tho percentage of passes being 95, and failures only 5 per cent. The attendance had increased^ to such an extent as to compel the committee to apply for a new class room arid an assistant mistress ; the new room had been built, and it waa expected that a mistress will be appointed at the next meeting of the board. No questions being asked the election was then jroceeded with, with tho following result: G. O'Neil 34. J. Collie 28, J. J. H'llis 19, W. Langdon, 20. J. C. Binskin 17, a. Battv 15, J. McLeod 11, R. Coles 10, T. Botes 7,' M. Buckley fi, J. Harrison 1. The first seven were declared duly elected. A meeting of the new committee was then held and Mr Binskin waa unanimously elected chairman for the year. It wna resolved that tendera bo called f.r charing, ond that on appeal be made to the householders to subscribe o small aum each for the purpose of providing firewood for the winter, as the incidental grant received from the board will not meet all expenaes. WAIIOUI. Tbe annual meeting of householders for the purpose of electing a committee for the Waitohi Flat School was held on Tuesday evening last. Mr Jobn Fraser was voted to the chair. The chairman read the retiring committee's report, which showed tbat during the vear the roll number had increased from 83 to 71, and the credit balance hod also increased from £20 la 6d to £22 13s lOd. The election of a new committee resulted in the return of Messrs John Fraser, David Cunningham, L. Scott, I). MeKinnon, A. J. Andrews, T. Thornley, and S. Galbraitb. A meeting of the newly elected committee was held immediately after the public meeting. Mr John Fraser was unanimously re-elected chairman, and it- was decided to hold the meetinge on the lost Monday in each month. WOODBUKT. The annual meeting of householders in the Woodburv school district, wus held in the scho"lroom, Woodbury, on Tuesday evening, there being only a small attendance Mr Dean wa-, on the motion of Mr Flatman, voled to the chair, and read tho annual report of the school. Tbe report showed that the school wa-> in a good financial position and £3 Ss 6d waa in hind to bo carried forward. Tbe committee had spent- £12 7a 3d, the proceeds of r^nt of rooms and concerts.on prizes and a school treat The condition of tho school was good and the attendance satisfactory. Mr W. Glanville bad completed hia apprenticeship at the achool and severed hia connectionjwhh tho school at Christmoa. Tho committee wished to place on record theirappreciation of his rcerita and his aucccas aa a teacher during the period of his counection with the achool. At the subsequent meeting of tho new committee Mr J. H. Dean woe elected chair man. . The chairman ssated that ho had interviewed Mr Greaves, tho head master, and had found that there wero no grounds for tho report re overcharge for school requisites. It waa resolved to write to Mr Grearea expressing regret that the report had been circulated. Proposed by Mr Flatmau and carried — ,: That in future outside rumoura be token no notiee of, unless the some be made in writing or by deputotjon." Aa there waa only one tender lodged for the aupply of Grewood it woa resolved to call for freah tenders. Tho first Monday in each month at 7. 30 p.m. «aa fixed for ordinary meetings. Meaare Daon ond Qick wore appointed visitors for the month, and tho meeting terminated. PLEA3ANT POINT. Thero was o good attendance and a most harmonious meeting. Tho Kov. W. White, chairman of the late committee, preaidod, and read the annual report of the outgoing committee, which showed that last year a dcllcie.iiy of £18 4s 2d had to bo faced, and that by contribution" from parents £6 2b 6d, proceeds of concert £5 6b, and liberal donotior.a of £3 from Mx A. E. H. Rhodes, M.H.R., and £2 from Mr Acton, the liabilities had been reduced to £11 13s. The teaching staff bad bwn materially assisted by Miss Donella -ulhcrland. Tho average for tho voar waa 147, and the number on the regiatore 202. ( In the motion of Mr Welsh, seconded by Mr Kennedy, a unanimous ond cordial vote of thanks waa passed to the outgoing committee for their services. Beforo proceeding to the election some discussion took place re ways and moons, ond it was decided thot parents be again aaked to contribute 2s Gd for each child, and that tho new management should be asked to u»o every effort lo remove tho debt. Both the outgoing committee and the householders wero unanimous in their expression of a full appreciation of tho Bervico of their late chairman, Mr A. McNevin, who hud done a good deal towards fosteriug a co-operative feeling omong thoso who take ao interest , in the school. Owing to hia departuro for Scotland, he was unable to staud for reelection, but they oil wished him " bon voyage " and a spoedy return.
