Tho ketch Comet having put all her timber out, took m tiro tracks of ballast yesterday nnd then commocced loading with produce. Sho should be ready for sea to-day. Tho s.s. Mahinapua arrived from the north early yesterday morning, and after discharging •10 tons of merchandise,and taking aboard a faw packages left for Oaraarn at noon, where she take 3 800 tons of coal for tho refrigerating ship Canterbury. Tho s.s. Herald arrived from tho south yostorday with a small cargo. jShe took m 80 ton 3of produce, and left for Northern and West Coast ports last evening. It is worth noting that tho mail which arrived m London upon the morning of Jan. 1, brought back from Sydney replies to letters sent from England on Nov. 11 : that is, a question land a reply m writing to and from the cities of Australia to London m 60 days. This is tho fastest on record. The steamor Mahinapua, which arrived at Lyttelton from Westport on Monday afternoon reports sighting two large turtle 3. The first was seen close to Stephen's Island, and tho second abont eight miles to the soath-eaat of tho island. They were first observed by Captain Holme 3, and it is estimated that they would weigh abont 3 cwt or 4 cwt each. Tho weather wa3 fine, and the sea quite smooth at the time, and the vessel passed within a few yard 3of those creatures.
