Miscellaneous. \ CHATWOOD'S DOUDCEUPLE PATENT "INVINCIBLE" FIRE FALL & BURGLAR PROOF SAFES. MR CHATWOOD designed and erected at the Banking premises of Messrs Hardcastle, Cross & Co., Bolton, the first Banker's Steel Strong Room m the World. Ono end of the room is ocoupied as a Bullion Treasury, which remains to this day tho most complete, and far away the strongest, yet produced. In this Strong Room Mr Chatwood introduced a new principle of lighting and ventilation. The doors of the room are two inches thick of Chatwood's Patent Intersected Steel, and are m duplicate for use m alternate months. In the centre of the Strong Room stands an Hydraulic Elevator, which carrieß the Books and Bullion up into the Bank Room, where it Btands during the day as a bank fixture, at once useful and o) namental. The top of this Elevator is one ef Chatwood's Check Safea, which effectually doseß all the keyholes, and locks out even theperßons having charge of the keys. In 1877 Mr Chatwood designed and erected for the Union Bank of Scotland, Glasgow, the largest Steel Strong Room m the World, 50 feet long, fitted with three of his Patent Intersected Steel Doors and Grip Frames, and divided into three chombers by two double steel walls, with lolled girders between, m which double walh are fitted two of Chatwood's Double-sided Safety Doors, accessible from either side. Each chamber is lighted and ventilated by one i»f Cbatwood'B Patent Ventilating Lamps, and fitted with interior Safes and Treasury. The floor of this Steel Room is protected by a network ef Chatwood's Patent Hydro-pneumatic Tubes, which, on being tampered with can be made to eound an alarm m Manager's Room and Police Office. One of Chatwood's Patent Hydraulic Elevaters, lifts four tons of Books out of its Strong Room into Bank Room m Accountant's Department, and another one m Transfer Department lifts two tons.
