GERALDINE.

The Jubilee display at Geraldine con- j sistedin the letting off of a few Chinese crackers and other fireworks of a most harmless character. It had been decided upon by three or four members of the Jubilee Committee to obtain about £10 worth of fireworks, but at the last minute it was ascertained that the Railway authorities would not allow them to be conveyed by rail, and so the Geraldinians had to be contentjwith what could bs obtained m the township. Great disappointment was experienced m the display of fireworks not eventuating, as many persons had arrived from various parts of the district ; some of them from a long distance. Only two places of business were illuminated, viz., MrJ. S. Waite's drapery establishment and Mr A. Fisher's Timaru Herald agency and stationery depdt. The former had one of his windows temptingly displayed with all the latest fashions, and the other showed a largo medallion portrait of Her Majesty, with the Prince of Wales feathers m another part of the window. Mr Fisher's window was darkened, and m tbe centre portion showed a portrait of the Queen surrounded by representatives cf all portions of her dominions, and below, the Prince of Wales feathers. It being a dark night both displays showed very effectively. (By Telegraph.) mVERCARGHLL, June 23.
