LIBEL ACTION.

! 4 (By Telegraph.) DUNEDIN, June 23. In the Supreme Court to-day, a libel action was heard before Mr Justice Williams, Bitting without a jury. Mr R. Peterson, of Lawrence, who recently filed ■ his schedule, sued the proprietors of the . Tuaptka Times for £300 damages for alleged libel contained m a running summary and comment on a meeting of the creditors of Peterson, which was headed "An Honest Bankrupt." His Honor, after hearing the evidence, said the publi- ' cation of the examination on oath before ■ the Official Assignee stood on the same ■ footing as the examination of witnesses s before an ordinary Court. The bankrupt out of his own mouth had shown that he had not acted honestly and what was said m the article was very fair and reasonable under the circumstances. Judgment was given for the defendant, and costs aa per scale with disbursements and witnesses expenses.
