Miscellaneous. CHATWOOD'S DOUDCEUPLE PATENT "INVINCIBLE" FIRE FALL & BURGLAR PROOF SAFES. Testimonials and Sala's "Battle of the Safes" post free on application to CHATWOOD'S PATENT SAFE AND LOCK CO., LIMITED, Lancashire Safe and Lock Works, Bolton ; 76 Newgate Street, London ; Also Manchester, Liverpool, and Leeds. MR CHATWOOD designed and erected at the Banking premises of Messrs Hardcastle, Cross & Co., Bolton, the first Banker's Steel Strong Room m the World. One end of the room is occupied as a Bullion Treasury, which remains to this day the most complete, and far away tho strongest, yet produced. In this Strong Room Mr Chatwood introduced a new principle of lighting and ventilation. The doors of the room are two inches thick of Chatwood's Patent Intersected Steel, and are m duplicate for use m alternate months. In the centre of the Strong Room stands an Hydraulic Elevator, which carries tho Books and Bullion up into the Bank Room, where it stands during the day fts a bank fixture, at once useful and ornamental. The top of this Elevator is one «f Chatwood's Check Safes, which effectunlly closes all tho keyholes, and locks out even the person! having charge of the kova. In 1877 Mr Chatwood designed and erected for tho Union Bank of Scotland, Glasgow, the largest Steel Strong Boom m the World, 50 feet long, fitted with three of his Patent Intersected Steel Doors and Grip Frames, and divided into three chambers by two double steel walls, with lolled girders between, m which double walls ar« fitted two of Chatwood's Double-Bided Safoty Doors, accessible from either side. Each chamber is lighted and ventilated by one i/f Ohatwood's Patent Ventilating Lamps, and fitted with interior Safes and Treasury. The floor of this Steel Soom is protected by a network ef Gbatwood'a Potent Hydro-pneumatic Tubes, which, on being tampored with can be made to sound an alarm m Manager's Room and Police Office. One of Chatwood's Patent Hydranlio Elevaters, lifts four tons of Books out of its Strong Room into Bank Room m Accountant's Department, and another ono m Transfer Department lifts two tons. The top of this latter Elevator is used to carry heary Btutionery to top of building, and suspended tray at bottom serves to carry up and dowu customers plate chests from and to plate room m basement.
