CORRESPONDENCE.

SCHOOL INSPECTION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMAKU HERALD. Sir,— l read ia this morning's edition of the Timaru Herald, a letter comment, ing unfavourably on the inspection of oui schools by Mr Gow. Now, Sir, th< cause of, this letter is plainly the bad report which one of the beat (if not tht best) schools m our district, is said tc have received this week. I fail to see how Mr Gow's inspectior or examination is to blame m this matter, m fact, I believe the blame is outside eithei school or Mr Gow. Before Ur Anderson's departure froit Timaru, he drew up, at the request of th( board, the whole of the exarainatior papers for this year bo that the new m specter might be able to begin examining immediately he arrived. There is n< doubt the questions this year are fai beyond any Standard examinations m Nev Zealand. Consequently Mr Gtow findi himself m a false position ([ should say having to examine from another man' papers, and as the last session of Parlia meat (or the Premier) cays " That oni failure (out of the dozen subjects _ whicl the examination covers) fails a child fo the Standard," it is easy to ree how tiei are Mr Govv's hands. The result will be that all our school will apparently give poor results, while ii reality the education given to our childre: is as good as ever it was. lam, etc., A Lover or Fai» Plat, Timaru, Not. 13th, 1886.
