Young Wellington's sire, Old Wellington (imported), was a pure Clydesdalo, counted one of the best horses imported into Canterbury. Young Wellington was first shown at Ashburton, as a yearling, taking first prize against five others. In 18P* he was shown at Timaru and took first prize, beating five others. At the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show, 1883, he took firstprUe for the best bred Clydesdale Stallion, first prize for All-aged Stallions, and the Champion Prize against the field; at tha Timaru Show m 1884 he took first prize, and again m 1885 he took Becond prize.
