He was bred by J. F. Kitching, Esq., Moa Flat Station, nnd his sire is tho celebrated stallion, Lord Salisbury (114, N.Z.H.8.), importod. Lord Salisbury was exhibited as a yearling at Ayr Show m May, 187R, nnd won first prize. At Ardrossan ho won first prize ; at Kilmarnock, m 1877, when a two-year-old, ho won first prize, with medul, for feost horse the yard; at Dairy, m 1877, ho won first prize; at Ayr, m May, 1877, first prize ; at Glasgow, m M^ay, 1877, first prize ; at tl)e Royal English, Liverpool, July, 1877, first prize ; at the H.B. Show, Edinburgh, July, 1877, first prize. ITo was shown at Dunedin m 1881, getting first prize ; also first prize and champion at Dunedin and Tuiori Shows, iv 1883, 1884, and 1885, nover having been beaten. Lord Salisbury's sire is Young Conqueror, (959, 5.C.5.8.) ; dam, Darling, by Tintock. GOOD HOPE'S dam, Scotch Annie (346, N.Z.5.8.), imp,, is a pure Clydesdale mare, bred by John Craig, Esq., Drumo. She gained first prize at Boinedin Show m 1883, with medal, for best rnaro m the yard ; at Tnieri Bhow, m Ifrß4, first prize for niaro and two of her progeny ; at Dunedin, m 1885, first prize and medal for the best mara m tho yard. Scotch Annie's sire, Ivanhoe 2nd (399, 5.0.5.8), bred by J. N. Fleming, Esq. Ivanhoe 2nd by Ivanhoe Ist (113, N.Z.5.8.), imp. He was got by the great Sir Walter Scott (797, 5.C.5.8.), who was grand sire of the famous Prince of Walea, whoso breeding needs np : commont. Pcotch Annie's dam, Lily, bre^ by Hugh Kerr, Esq., Mains of KUburnie, Ayrshire, has gained many premiums both at ofaybole and County of Ayr. Her grand-dam won more first prizes than any mare m Ayrshire until debarred from showing. GOOD HOPE gained first prize as a two-year-old at the Taieri Show m 1881 ; nleo first prize ns a toree-ycnr-old at Dunedin m 1885, and first at tho Taieri Show m 1885. The above pedigree proves GOOD HOPE to be descended from the purest of Clydesdale blood ; and he cannot fail to make a first claJ3 sire.
