(By Teieoravh.) Auckland, Oct. 5. Information has been received from Fiji by the Arnwata that judgment m the Appeal Court of Fiji has been given for the plaintiff m the action Mamamea v. McArthur and Co. The judgment stated thr\t plaintiff was entitled to possession of 300,000 acreß. McArtbur and Co. were ordered to deliver up possession. In the case of Spalding, charged with burning the Auckland Dairy Company's buildings, the jury returned a verdict of insanity. Mr Justice Ward committed the prisoner to the asylum pending the Colonial Secretary's pleatur*. •I'lie Bey. Mr Kellin, who desired to practice law with his ministerial duties at Whangarei, has tendered his resignation of his charge. He made BOrne singular statements, from which several members of the Presbytery strongly dissonted. The Stark Purchase Commissioners have arrived nnd commenced the enquiry. The Marlborough Cricket Clubs haT» formed an Association, and have cabled to the Melbourne Club for dates and terms for a two days' match with the English cricketers at Blenheim. Five Clubs have already ioincd the Association, and Cup matches will be played. Heavy rain has fallen last night and today. Nelson, Oct. 6. The Town School Committee laßt night agreed by a majority of four to three to grant tho use of the school rooms for religions instruction by ministers of religion between nine and nine-thirty o'clock. It was, however, agreed that tho whole committee should^ resign m order to give the householders an. opportunity of expressing an opinion. Chbistouuboh, Oct. 5. Tho directors of the Southern Cross Petroleum Co. hare received advices that the depth of the bore on Friday last was 1448 feet, with an increase of oil and gas shewing. Three young men have reported to tho police that while at Ocean Bench last night they saw a man or woman dive into the waves. They ran to the spot but could dis» cover notl ing. An unoccupied house, belonging to Georg* Huchin, Maori Hill, was burned down last nigbt. It was insured m the Colonial Office for £100. Inspector Weldon has received six months' leave of absence. Inspector Moore, of Lawrence, takes charge of the district during the absence of Inspector Weldon.
