TEE HALL-HOUSTON CASE.

Tho prisoners Hall nnd Houston wero brought back from theLyttelton and Adding- j ton gaols yesterday by the express and taken to the Tiinarn gaol. Prisoners were taken out at tho station, and though there wero a number of people about, they saw but little of the accused, who were got into a vehicle and driven away as quickly as possible. A. Christchuich telegram received yesterday states :— " One report is to the effect that the removal is m connection with the oxhumution of tho late Captain Cain's body ; another that Hall has gone at his own request to dispose of certain property before tho | trial." The "report," so fur as we can learn, is n. false one. ; the removal has not tho j slightest connection with the late exhumation business. Prisoners have been brought back so that their solicitors can consult with them over their defence, and to ixho see Hall about some transactions carried out by tho late firm of ball and Meason. It is understood that tho prisoners will bo sent North again on Saturday morning. We may add, as a reminder, that all the Ti'»aru witnesses must be m attendancs at the Supreme Court, Christchurch, on Friday next, at 10 o'clock, so that it will be necessary for them to leave Timaru

some time to-morrow.
