(By Telegraph.) (Per the Manapouri at Auckland.) Sydkby, Sept. 30. The Assembly held a lengthened sitting lasting throughout the entire night, the Government pushing through the Estimates. Several discreditable Bcenes occurred, and the proceedings were generally of a most disgraceful character. The Government expect to prorogue about the middle of next month. Ship owners have submitted four questions ■which they advise should be submitted to arbitration. 'Xbey are (1) whether the management of any of the steamship owners has been unduly interfered with by the TJnionß ? (2) Whether steamships are under-manned m any department ? (3) What is a fair rate to be paid for overtimo ? (4) What ia a fair rate of wages to be paid to various employees? The Intercolonial Stock Conferense ia holding its sitting, tho Hon. W. S. Peter representing New Zealand. The question of pleuro and scab are bein? dealt with, also catarrh m the sheep. The solution arrived at being that all sheep affected be destroyed, and their owners compensated. Tho Council has postponed the consideration of the Land Tax Bill for a week, members insisting to know definitely the intention of Government m regard to the Income Tax Bill. Tbe question of New Zealand cable rates is being discussed m mercantile circles. The conditions of the Centennial Handicap have been altered to admit of two-year-olds also starting. The question of holding an exhibition m connection with the centennial celebration is again to be brought before the Assembly. Provision is being made for the unemployed by work m the country.
