Thero has been a considerable demand for merino wools m tho market dnring the past fortnight, and a fair amonnt of bnsiuess has been dono at prices from 10 to J5 por cent m advance of tho closing rates of the July series of auotions. Tho total number of bales which have ohanged hands privately is ostimatcd at 13,000, of which quantity some 10,000 wero Capo produce. Holders of Australasian wools are unwilling sollers, preferring to await tho September series of sale 3 for realization. Domestic wools of tho finer classes have lately been m strong domand, and [havo further improved their position ; coarse deep-grown wools are also firmer. Advico3 received both from tho Homo manufacturing centres and from the Continont report a largo consumption and hardening ratoa for woola of all descriptions. At tho Antwerp sales, held on tho 2nd to 7th instant, thero sold 9699 bales South Amorican produce, at an advance of abont 25 per cent on tho May Bales' rates. Stocks m tbo Antwerp market aro now practically cleared until tho arrival of the new clip. The arrivals for tho fourth series of sale 3 commenced on tho 7th September aro as follow :— Bales. WHEAT. Sinco our last advices tho weather has nainly continued favourable for harvesting operations, and m the provincial markets wheat has again shown a hardening tendency. In tho London market, however, and at the majority of tho ports, it has been difficult to ostablish any advance m rates. The influx of tho unprecedented heavy supply of 83,634 sacks of foreign flour of 2801b3, chiefly Amorican, has materially reduced tho buyers of wheat, and rendered tho market unsettled. The American winter crop was secured early, m good condition, and is now readily available, bnt the stock of old season's wheat is belioved to bo unimportant. Tho harvest m Franco is reported to bo well m progress. Now Zoaland wheat is scarce, and sells readily kt an advance of 6d per quarter. Tho imperial average prico of British wheat for tho past week is given at 31a Bd. Flour is slow of sale, m consequence of tho largo arrivals, bnt quotations havo not boon reduced generally. Oats of primo quality aro m fair demand. Beans are m good enquiry at an advanco of 6d to la. Poas also meet a good market at last quotations. Cooksfoot remains unchanged. Tho qnantity of wheat on passage or shipping to tho United Kingdom ia now 1,901,000 quarters a3 against 1,925,000 quarters a fortnight ago, and 2,132,500 quarters for tho corrosponding period m 1885. Tho American " visible supply" is givon aa 36,752,87* bushels as compared with 28,567,»14 bushels on tho 30th ulto., and 42,523,939 bushola at tho same time last year. At tho publio auctions held since tho date of our laat advices, 2033 casks Australian and New Zealand were catalogued, of which quantity 1130 casks found bnyera. Thoro was an improved demand for mutton at tho termination of the sales of fnlly Od per cwt. m favor of sellers. L'oef tallow, howover, experienced no change.
