VOGEL V. ROYDHOUSE AND ANOTHER.
« VERDICT FOB THE DEFENDANTS. (By Telegeaph.) Wellington, Sept. 3. Tho action brought by Sir Julius Yogel against Roydhouse and another to recover damages for alleged hbel was heard m the Supreme Court to-day. Mr Travera appeared for the plaintiff and Mr H. D. Bell for the defendant. The action arose out of articles, wnich appeared m a paper published by defendants, commenting on the District Railways purchase. Mr Travers opened tho case, and called Sir Julius Yogel, who was examined, cross-examined, mid re-examined at great length. Evidence was taken to show the impressions conveyed to certain people on . reading the articles, but the evidence wns not of any importance. Mr Bell called no witnesses for the defence. Both counsel addre3«cd the jury nt considerable length, and after the Chief Justice had carefully summed up, tho jury retired at 10 30 p.m. ' After an hour's deliberation, they returned with a verdict for the defendants. Costs were allowed on the highest scale.
