In the morning there was a heavy Scotch mint fulling, which turned m the nfternoon to a drizzling rain. The course was m consequence m an> thing but good going order, it being quite sloppy, and the running very heavy, and more than one spill occurred through the Blippcry turf. The attendance was very poor indeed —not more than four hundred people at tho utmost being on the ground at any time during the day. Those who purchased tho licensed and refreshment booths did not do much business, likewiso tho purchaser of (he gafes. Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin had ono of their totnlifators on the ground, but very few patronised it-, only £118 being put through it The various officers of the club carried out the'r duties well, and mado the meeting as great n success aa tho miserable weather would allow. It could be seen, however, that a good start had been effected. Coming into tho straight Harkaway had a strong lead, but at tho first jump foil and gave his rider a nasty spill. All Fours then took command with Larrikin close up. Passing tho stand the first timo the order was All Fours— who tripped over tho jump m front and was with difficulty pulled up by Blackmoro— Larrikin, Pirate, Sawdust and Harkaway. Larrikin ran round the jump going into the back running, and on being put to it the second time fell heavily, and let Pirate m for second plaeo. The order of the remaining horses was maintained till rounding into tho straight the second time, when Pirate, closed on All Fours, was on level tennß up to the last jump, and then came away and won easily by four lengths ; the same distance Beparated All Fours and Sawdust. Five of tho eight horses left on the card sported silk for this, tho great event of tho day. The lot were sent away to a fair start m tho paddock off tho turnips, but owing to tho heavy mist, and to its getting dusk at the timo the rnco was started, tho colours could not be made out with certainty til the field rounded into the straight, when it was 6eon that Bredonhill was leading, with Ivanhoe and Ben H close up. Tuking tho stone wall m front of the grand Btand, the order was Bredonhill, Ben H., Ivanhoe, Tho Mount, and Larrikin. At tho double out of the field and over the main road Bredonhill baulked at the second gorse, thus giving Ben H. the lead. Bredonhill was soon, however, put over, and went m pursuit of the loaders. No alteration of the running order took place till The Mount came to grief at the third to last jump from home, turning a complete Bomersault, and throwing his rider with gre-it violence. Bredonhill then assumed third place. Bon H. on coming to the straight had too strong a lead, and won easily from Ivanhoe ; Bredonhill a fair third. In the totalisator— 66 subscribers, £15 on tho winner ; dividend £3 19s. For the Consolation Handicap Steeplechase, of 10 boys, there was only one entry, and The Mount was allowed a walk over.
