AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the above board wai held at Vt KdwarU. Lee's, Arowhenua, on Tuesday evening. PBEBBNT. Messrs E. Lee (chairman), Austin, Edgeler, Proudlock and Story. The minutes having been read and confirmed, tho chairman read the COHKESPOKDRNCE as follows : — Outwards — A letter from the chairman to tho Lands Office, asking for particulars of all lands sold and the moneys accruing due for same, m tho Arowhenua district. — Approved. Inwards — Two applications wore received for tho pO3t of CLEBK AND OVEESBBR to the bo.ird m reply to the advertisement issued by tho board. The chairman, before considering them, read the schedule of duties which he, m conjunction with Mr Proudloek, had drawn up, m accordance with instructions at last moeting. They wero as follows : — The clerk to prepare a rate- roll, collect rales, collect dog tax, act. ns overseer and inspector of nuisances, as well as clork at board meetings, and to attend at tho office of tho board ono day m each wook. He would also be required to give security m £160. One of the applicants suggested that as the work for the first six months would be specially a'duous, a bonus of say £10 might bo given at tho end of the first half-year, if tho work was done satisfactorily. Mr Edgier suggested that it might be as well for the first six months or so to divide tho duties of clerk and overseer, employing two men ; but the board thought such a step would be unnecessary. The applications having been considered m committee, Mr Story moved, Mr Proudlock seconding tho motion that Mr Georee Dyßon bo appointed clerk and overseer. The board unanimously carried the motion, the members individually expressing their high opinion of his qualifications for the post, and stating that his long experience of board duties would render him of the utmost service to a newlyelected and consequently somewhat inexperienced body like themselves. RFSERVEB. The Chairman and Mr Austin, who had been appointod at lust meeting a committee to enquire into tho question of the board's reserves, produced their report. It showed that there was a total aoreage of 23 acres 3 roods Hi porches at their disposal. Some of this would be difficult to let, but there was from 18 to 20 a^ras of firat class land which should lot readily. Tho sections wero of various areas, ranging from a quarter of an aero to an aero. Tho best sections were those on High Btreot, averaging about an acre each. Further discussion was postponed until the receipt of the reply from tho Lands Office. MISCELLANEOUS. The chairman was empowered to communicate with tho newly-appointed clork, and to instruct him to prepare the rate roll at once. Further, to write to the Commissioner of Taxes, asking for authority to strike a rate. It was agreed that the olerk should obtain copies of tho Tomuka and Geraldino town by-laws, for tho guidance of the board m forming their own, and also to procure any other books requisito for the proper carrying out of his duties. Tho board thon adjourned for a weok.
