SAD SUICIDE.
(By Telegraph.) Invbkoabqili., Aug. 31. Bichard Forrest, aged eiitr, committed suicide to-day by drinking a lotion used for external application. After taking the mixture he went to the police camp and told what be had done, stating that he bad taken the poison to relieve himself of the sufferings of this life, as tliero seemed to be no hope of his being again able to earn a living. He was removed to the hospital, where it was found necessary to perform the operation of traohetomy to prevent suffocation. He died about til' hour* after taking the poison. Forrest was a very respectable man, and was formerly a leather merchant m Dunedin, and well to do. Laterly he had fallen into low circumstances, his only means of subsistence being a little clerical wort, which ill-health compelled him to relinquish. He leaves a widow.
