yesterday, could not be commenced then owing to the rain which fell throughout the day. Play began this morning, the weather being fine. There waa a large attendance. The Australians by the excellent play of Giffen, Blackham and Bruce, ran up a score of 248 before the last wicket fell. Giffen contributed 53, Blackham 71, and Bruce 43. All were bowled. At the conclusion of the day's play the Englishmen had scored 35 with one wicket down.
