WAIMATE COUNTY HUNT CLUB.
■ ♦ A meeting of tho Wnimato County Hunt Club Committee was hold at the Makikihi Hotel on Friday afternoon, some half-dozen members being present. Mr T. Tcschemaker was voted to tho chair. Tho minutes of last meeting having been road and adopted, tho Secretary, Mr Lovegrove, announced that tho balance of tho club's account was on tho debit side. The meeting then went into Committee to discuss ways and means. Tho general mooting of tho olub was held afterwards, tho attendanco being fairly largo. Mr Teachemaker was appointed Chairman, and announced that the expenses for last season woro £240, of which £150 had to be found by general subscription. In this thero was a deficit. For tho present season Mr Ehodes had generously promised to hunt tho district twice a week if ho was guaranteed £100 and tho services of a huntsman. For himsolf, ho was sorry to say that his oxporionco bo far had been that oven thosubscriptions of last season would not bo all renewed, to the samo amount at any rate. The club had a very sorious question of ways and means to consider, notwithstanding Mr fihodo's very generous offer. Mr Lovegrovo proposed that a committee bo appointed to canvass the district for promises of support, to discuss ways and lneaus, and to report m a fortnight. Mr Boylo pointed out that several guarantees of last season had not been carried out. He would liko cash subscriptions. Mr Cowio seconded Mr Lovegrove's motion, which was carried. A committee consisting of Messrs J. C, Thierens, junr., Childs, Cowie, Lovegrovo, Rhodes, Armitagc, P. Jones, Prico, Pottor and Wright were appointed. Mr Armitage pointed out that a huntsman was required, lie himself could not undertnko to hunt hounds as often as he would liko. He would suggest that Mr Doylo bo asked. If they could not get a huntsman it was no good getting up subscriptions. Mr Doylo was asked, but declined on the ground of want of titno to attend to it properly. Mr Rhodes said that he. thought Mr Armitago and Mr Doylo wero tho only men capablo of handling tho pack, with tho exception of Mr Pelhatn Jones, whose health precluded his undertaking tho duties. Ho also pointed out that the committee had power to mako arrangements for a huntsman, as well as for subscriptions. He wanted to sco hound* thoroughly well hunted, but he could not sco his way to mako any further offer. Mr Maalin thought that the farmers generally did not approve of hounds, but tho general impression seemed to bo otherwise. Tho Socrotary said that no complaints had beon received from farmers. Tho meeting then adjourned, another meeting to bo called after the report of the committee has been received. A sum of £50 was subscribed m the room.
