It is reported a man unknown committed suicide by jumping into the Waikato river at Cambridge last night. The police are making a vigorous search. The Hon. Judge Williams, m reply to an enquiry by the Minister of Justice, expresses the opinion that the woman Mary Moran, under trial for infanticide, cannot be tried at the ensuing criminnl sessions of the Supreme Court. The woman will therefore be released on trial, and m order to prevent a recurrence of any similar case, Mr Tolo is communicating with resident magistrates, requesting them, m sending cases for trial, to order that they shall be at the nearest and earliest Supreme Court. for a considerable time on several charges of forgery, with intent to defraud that corporation. I'he accused was taken into custody while working on Mr Pollock's Btation, near Balclutha, where he has been employed for a number of months, and where ho was known us Thomas Courtenay. Ho is charged with having on tho 16th February, 1884, forged tho name of E\ McLeod to an order for £27 17s 4d, with intent, to defraud tho Petone Board, and also with having forged an acceptance receipt for £10 Is, on the 15th May, with intent to defraud tho Board. He disappeared from ■Wellington about eighteen months ago, and was only recently discovered on Pollock's station. Twenty-four of tho' Southern unemployed passed through here to-day en route for Greymonth. An advertising " sandwich man " has been summoned and fined 6s and costs for breach of the by-laws. J. H. The Accident Insurance Company's report Bhows a debit balance of £1599, due to excessive competition and large expenditure m Australian business, which haß been abandoned. At the Supreme Court to-day, John Giles ■was found guilty of uttoring a forged cheque and sentenced to nine months' hard labor. C. H. Mower pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery from a dwelling and received nine months. Thos. Spencer for unlawfully assaulting a girl under 12 years, was acquitted. There was a grand display of aurora Australis to-night.
