STRANDING OF THE S.S. HAWEA.

(Et Telegraph.) Kklsos, JJarch GO. The Union Company's stoamc-r Hawea trot on the rocks at the entrance of the harbour at 4 o'clock this morning 1 . Efforts were made to get her off, but without success. Further efforts will bo marie with this al'tL-raoon'o tide but it is doubtful if they wiil ba successful till the tides sufficiently make, which will be i:i a few days. No damage has yot bsen doua. If she gets off she will leave at 5 a.m. to-morrow for Picton and the South. Late a. At an honr before high water this morning, as the steamer Hawea was being brought into harbour, tho pilot's son beifig 1 ia c-hargo, t!ic vessel failed to answer her helm when m the narrows at the entrance, and with the way on her she ran ashore close to tho loa iing lights on Haven Hoad, running up on the gravel beach. Her bow became hard and fast, and though the Maliinapna, which had just entered port, went down and tried to tow her off, the trial proved unsuccessful. At high water this evening tho same steamor for over an hour tried to pull her off, and evory effort was xnadt), but the Hawea remains m the same place, though she has slowed round a little. The Mahiiiapua then sailed for tho coast. Tho tide to-night was a very poor one, and the steamer should get off to-morrow. Sho is upright and uninjured.
