SEA TROUT.
A Striking cvideneo of the fertility of sea trout (#. trulla) has been revealed nt the South Kensington Aqn.ivip.m, wee several havo been artificially spiwn-.'d wil.h great success. Wo believe thi-i i< tho first time on record that this spCL-io.-t have been made to yield ov;i und or similar oii-cnmstnnccs. Tho fish m q;ie tion havo been kept m captivity with other rpofies of . k alinonicla; for three years, and therefore have never visited the sea, as is their wont, but notwithstanding the cheek thus placed upon their natural instinct?, their condition has not been m tho least impaired, neither havo their productive functions become disorg-uiissrt. The operations of the inhabitant* of the Saltnonidrc tank at the Aquarium arc very interesting to watch at this season of the year, especially tho manner m which the fish pair with opposite species — for instance, the fontinalis with tho common trout, tho seatrout with tho Oilleroo trout, &c. In cap tixity, fi 9 h yield their ovn, much later than they do m a wild state; but of every thirty Biihjectod to artificial existenco there is, upon an average, only one barren fish amongst them. — Nature.
