STOCK EXCHANGE GAMBLING.

* A short time since we had occasion to warn our readers against the pernicious system of gambling m the public funds nnd securities promoted by brokers and stockjobbers who have not been admitted as .members of the Stock Exchange. Cases which linvo been recently brought beforo the courts of law have proved tlio correctness of the opinion wo then expressed. Credulous perrons, who have intrusted their money to these brokers lured by the specious advertisements which are inserted widely, not only m the London, but also m the provincial papers, have heard ■with dismay tbifc m some instancis the partners have spent the whole of tlie money intrusted to them for their own private purposes, and that fictitious n; counts of iis investments and loss have been all the recompense they haro received for their credulity. It is persons who are limits • quainted with business that are generally the dupes of thfiso men. It is painful to read of one clergyman whose £50U had been thuß wasted ; and the ninnlicr of victims must be very great, ovon to pay for Ilia expenses of advertising which aro incline ! by tho men who refrain from no falsehood to luro money out of the pockets of those who aro ignorant, not of the risk they run, but of tho certainty they incur of losing their hard-earned savings, constituting the capital on whose interest thoy depend for support. The attention of the Committee of tho Stock Exchange has been directed to this evil, and a notice cautioning the public has appeared m tho Times and other London daily papers ; but the Stock Exchange cannot be expected to incur the enormous expense of advertising m every paper m the kingdom, and, therefore, their caution cannot meet the ■view of all persons who may see the toinpting accounts of tho brokers who advertise Options, Syndicates, Timo bargains, and other modes of gambling. We thorefoi c insert this circular, and beg any of our reactors who may be inclined to yield to the allurement of outside brokers to rend it carofully and ponder well on the caution it Contains -.—"Notice. — Members of tho Stock

Exchange are not allowed to advertise for business purposes or issue circulars to persons other than their own principals. Brokers or ngenta who advertise aro not m any way connected with the Stock Exchange or under tho control of tho Committee. Lists of members of the Stock Exchange who net as stock and share brokers may be obtained on application to — FnANCis Lbvix, Secretary to tho Committee of tho Stock Exchange— Commitro Room, Tho Stock Exchange, E.C." To this caution we can add littlo. If persons are so credulous as to entrust their money to outsido self-styled brokers after reading such an announcement, they aro hardly to bo pitied when the inevitable loss ensues. — Queen.
