WAIMATE HOSPITAL.

A meeting of the subscribers to the Waimate Hospital, convened by His Excellency the Governor, under the Hospitals and Charitable Aid Bill, was held m the County Council chamber, Waimate, on Thursday evening. Abont twenty-five Bubieribers were present, and Mr John Manchester was appointed chairman. The meeting was called to elect trustees for the Hospital, the number to be appointed being six, the subscribers not reaching the number of 500. In bis opening remarks the Chairman briefly explained the circumstances •under which the meeting was convened, citing the clauses m the Act bearing on the case. He said that the number of subscribers •was 372, representing £156. He alluded m terms of bighi praise to tho services Hr Alpheus Hayes had rendered the Hospital on the Timara Board. He went on to soy that as yet the Waimate Hospital was not entirely separated from the control of the Timaru Board, but hoped that during next session it ■would be constituted an entirely separate district. This would cause o considerable reduction m the amount necessary for carrying on the work of the Waimate district, as at present a largo part of the rate was not expended m Waimate, but divided amongst other districts. He concluded by calling for nominations. The following NOMINATIONS ■were then handed m : — Mr Eupert Cameron, proposed by Mr . Middleton, seconded by Mr D'Emden ; Mr Nicholas Wall, proposed by Mr Goldsmith, seconded by Mr Black ; Mr W. H. Beckett, proposed by Dr Stagpoole, seconded by Mr Goldsmith ; Mr James Sinclair, proposed by Mr Hayes, seconded by Mr G. Manchester ; Mr W. Manchester, proposed by Mr Hayes, seconded by Mr Goldsmith ; Mr E\ Jones, proposed by Dr Stagpoole, seconded by Mr D'Emden ; Mr W. J, Black, proposed by Mr Middleton, seconded by Mr White ; Mr A. Walker, proposed Mr Sinclair, seconded by Mr Cameron. Messrs A. Hayes, H. Middleton, Gascoyne and Graham were also proposed, but declined to stand. Much pressure was brought upon Mr Alpheus Hayes to reconsider his decision, but he alleged pressure of business as effectually preventing him from devoting the necessary lime to his duties. Mr Middleton was also urged to allow himself to Jbe nominated, but he declined. Messrs Graham and Jackaon were then appointed to take a ballot, which resulted as follows: — Mr N. Wall 21 Mr F.Jones 19 Mr R. Cameron ... ... 18 Mr J. Sinclair 18 Mrßeckttt 17 Mr Black 17 Mr W. Manchester 14, Mr Walker 10 The .first six wore declared duly elected, and the meeting adjourned.
