ALLEGED CASE OF BIGAMY.

A charge of bigamy was investigated ot the Fitzroy Court, Melbourne recently, tho accused being a middle-aged man named Georgo •Grinter, carrying on business as a grocer at South Melbourne. It was elicited that the prisoner hod been a constant visitor at tho house of Robert Devine, residing m "Littio Lonsdale street, Melbourne (the father of the girl whom he had induced to marry him), for about threo years, and had always represented himself as a singlo man, saying that tho woman at his shop m South Melbourne was his sister-in-law. He had not asked the father's consent to tho marriage, and tho'girl (who was under age) had dressed m tho hotel next to her father's shop, and left thero accompanied by Grinter and witnesses to go to the registrar's oflico to be married without her parents' knowledge. Tho girl (Anno Maria Devine) who waa proved to be only 17 years of age, said that she had known tho prisoner for about threo years, visiting at hor father's place, and that she haclmarried him on tho supposition that he waa a singlo man. Sho hod told the officiating clergyman that she waa over 21 yeara of age. In crossexamination by Mr. Gillott, the Rev. Wm. Asher, Congregational minister, who had celebrated the marringo, said that it, waausual for a clegyman to marry a couple without notice if called for by the registrar, but that the latter had to give three days' before doing bo himself. Tho prisoner was committed to take hia trial.
