♦ A regular meeting of the Waiinnto Dorough Council was held m the Council Chambers on Monday evening. Tho Clerk explained that Mr Clissold's namo had been on tho roll m respect to the Baid land for tho last two years, ho being described as mortgagee m possession. It was decided to inform Sir Clissold that his namo would bo removed upon his furnishing tho namo of the present owner or owners. DEFAULTING! HATEPAYHIIS. A letter was read from a woman describing horsolf as a ■widow, and m indigent circum? stances, asking for leniency. The Clerk reported that the woman m question, together with several other ratepayers m default, had beon summoned to appear at tlio Resident Magistrate's Court. The other oases had been settled out of Coiut, but m this caso tho matter had gono before tho magistrate, who gave judgment for the full amount claimed, £1 18s, with costs. Ho further reported that the woman owned a little property, which eha was mortgaging to provide means of subsistence Some discussion ensued, several of tho Councillors present suggesting that tho matter should bo allowed to drop, and others insisting that she was hardly ft proper person to show leniency to. Ultimately tho Clerk wa9 instructed to proceed m tho matter, to recover tho amount. ADVEETISIXa. It was resolved, on tho motion of Councillor Harrison, to call for tenders for tho necessary advertising of the Council for tho ensuing year. An advertisement to that effect to bo inserted onei m tho TIMAnrJ Herald and Waimale Times. TIIK WATEIJ-WortKS SCHEME. Tho Committco appointed at last meeting to investigate and report on this matter not having yet sent m their report, tho matter waj adjourned. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £95 6\s Id were passed for payment. Tho Clork reported that the disbursements of tho Council approximated closely to tho revonuo, tho Bank balance being very little one way or the other. Further, that tho rates were coming m with praiseworthy regularity. Tho Council then adjourned at nn early hour.
