THEATRE ROYAL. AN ACTRESS FAINTS.
On Saturday evening last tho Colorado Beetlo Troupe performed at tho Theatro Koyal, Timaru, before a rather thin houso. The entertainment .opened with, tho usual minstrel songs and jokes, all of which wero well received. Tho little sisters — May and Daisy Thornton, sang their favourite song "The Apple of my .Eye," which was highly appreciated. Iho nest item, a song, "Sweet Kisses," was rather suddenly interrupted, by Miss Vaughan falling prostrate on the stage m a fainting fit, m the midst of tho rendition of her song. Two lady members of tho company wera promptly by her Bide, and removed her m an unconscious state from tho Btage. The curtain was at once lowered, when Mr Devereux announcedithat m consequence of Miss Vaughan'a sudden illness, an alteration would have to bo made m the programme, and intimated that if any person should feel dissatisfied ut tho unavoidable change, they could apply for thoir money at the doors aa they passed out. Only two persons took advantage of tho announcement, caused through the sad occurrence. The" entertainment was then proceeded with, and tho farce and Bongs wero fairly gone through. The dancing of tho Norton Brothers was much admired, and they were greeted with the hearty applause of the audienco. Dr Hogg was called m yesterdny to see Miss Vaughan, and we wore pleased to hear that sho has sustained no injury through the foil, and, with the exception of being a little weak, oho is nono the worse for the mishap. Miss Vaughan, we learn, is subject to fainting fits, but hitherto she has escaped being attacked by them on the stage. The company leave for Waimate and Oamaru to-day.
