TWO HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE TIMABU HERALD. Sin, — On reading your cablegrams this morning tho abovo amount caught my eye, and I at once thought that surely a foretasto of tho Millennium was about being vouohesafed to us. On top of this happy thought came Mr Twomey's glorious promise of putting us all on tho right road to attain tho leaps and bounds of prosperity which Sir Julius Vbgel told us we should get, but which ho never gavo. Tho fact of such an immense amount of money being available for speoulation amongßt tho landlords of Ireland, must, I thought, give us the very opportunity which a paternal Government has been seeking for

us for some time past, viz., that of populating this our adopted country with farmers and others bleeßed with capital. Now, Mr Editor, if you think this Stout-Vogel Government are not equal to the position of being able sufficiently to tempt out to our glorious country sorao of these millions by putting before the owners of them Bomo such information of our agricultural and pastoral capabilities, to say nothing of railways and innuraerabloother equally good specs, then, pray, use your powerful pen and paper to bring them up to the mark. If Now Zealand can get anything like a fair proportion of that grand opportunity, then Vogcl's loans, Grey's bursting-up tricks, and last but not least, Twomey's Issues, can all be quietly shelved, and all will then be happy and glorious. Mr Editor, you may not think much of this little idea ; still I havo seen bigger things turn up trumps from a worse chance, so let us hopo this may enablo us to say " Eureka." I am, &c, Hopeful.
