CRICKET.
A match between teams chosen by Messrs Mr M. J. Godby and 0. S. Fraser, was played on the Timaru Cricket Club's ground yesterday afternoon, and proved a most enjoyable one. The weather was rather cold, but a capital wicket was pitched, and at times the game was very lively. Among tho plsycra were several of " The Private Secretary Troupe," who gave unmistakeable evidence of having handled tho willow and the leather before. Mr Musgrove, we may mention, made one of tbo highest scores against the AH England Eleven m their last visit to Australia, and was requested to form one of tlio team which will represent tho colonies at Homo during the coming season. His business engagements, however, precluded him from accepting the invitation. Mr Godby's side went m first and were all out for 85, Musgrovo and Hughes doing tho bowling. Both were well on tho wicket, and had the fielding been a littlo smarter the figures would not have crept up so fast. Smithson and Raymond played carefully, and wero tho only two who got into doublo figures. Fraser's side went m about 430 o'clock, and it was expected Musgrove would mako a stand, but he was bowled the second ball by Godby. W. J. Hughes, Fraser, Rees, and H. Smith gavo their opponents any amount of leather-hunting, and when the stumps wero drawn 107 had been put together for the loss of five wickets. Tho following are tho scores : — Mi Godisx's Side. 0.
