Miscellaneous. fHE LATEST AMERICAN INVENTION. THE VICTORY OF ELECTRICITY. SINCE Electricity has been appliod for lighting purposes, all efforts of inventors iiavo beon directed to construct a lamp for »eneral domestic use. 'Ihe reason why this problem has till now not buen solved is that ridne of tho inventors could rid themselves of iho idea of gas-lighting, and that all have idhered to tho system of producing the Electricity m come co.tral place, or by lurge machinery, instead of first laying down tho prineiplo that a Lamp which Bhould ever bojomo genorally useful and popular must bo portable, like an Oil Lamp, and contain the generator of Eloctricity m itself, i.e., m tho foot of the Lamp. Tho Norumn Electric Light Co. has at last succeeded m completely realising this ideal of Electric Lighting, and thero is no doubt that this most important invention will bring iibout 11 completo revolution m all branches of lighting. Our Electric Lamp needs neither Machinery, Conductors, nor any expensivo outlay, and is neither complicated nor dieagree»blo m manipulation ; all that is necessary is to roli II it every four or livo days with acid. The cost of lighting will be is cheap as gas (3} cents per hour), und it has before tho latter the immenac novanfcttgo of ncttlier producing liesfcj Bmoko nor carbonic acid, owing to which the air is not impured, and remains at tho same degree of tomperature. It is, further, absolutely inodorous, and does not need to be kii.dlcd by match or otherwise, but simply by turning the key, thus avoiding all dunger of Gro, explosion or Buffocation, as m the case of gns, if the key is loft open ; and it must bo conceded that this advantage alone is invaluable. It is further preforable to any known kind of lighting for tho following reasons : — 1. Its manipulation is co simple that any child can keep it m order. 2. That the Lamp is portable, and can bo removed like any Oil Lamp from one place to another. 3. Thut it neither requires the disagreeable fixing of the wick or the cleaning of tho cylinder, as m the case of Oil Lamps. •1. That tho light produced is a soft and moat steady 0110 ; that it never flickers, and tho flame, though being equal m power of lighting to gas, can bo regulated to any degree. 5. That every donger of fire is absolutely excludod, as the light will extinguish immediately if by any accident the glass surrounding tho burner should be broken. G. That it will burn, oven m tho strongest wind, completely unaffected, thus being invaluable for illuminations, lighting of gardens, corridors, etc. This Lamp is constructed for the present m three different sizes : — A, small size. Height of completo Lamp, 14 inches ; weight, about five pounds ; for lighting rooms, cellars, storago houses, powder magazines (or similar places where explosives are kept l , coaches, illuminations, gardens, mines, or any other industrial purpose. Price, £ I per Lamp, delivered free to any part of the world. B, medium size.
