THE ROYAL IRISH SOCIETY AND THE PARNELLITES.

(By Telegraph.) (Per s.s. Tokapo at Wellington.) (Special to the Meliiouiine "Aob.") Loxdok, Jan. 21. A deputation representing the members of tbo Loyal Irish Society waited on January 19th on tho Marquis of Salisbury with an entrenty that tho Government would not concedo to tho demands of Iho Parnellito party, but that they would stringently enforce tho present laws for tho preservation of order m Ireland. Tho deputation declared that if the demands of the Parnellito party for tho legislative independence of Ireland wero granted tho dismemberment of the Empiro must inevitably follow. Tho Marquis of Salisbury m reply assured the deputation that tho Government had a thorough appreciation of their , responsibilities m tho matter, and would bo careful to disehargo them properly. Tho deputation deßired also lo wait upon Mr Oladstono with tho object, of mating a similar appeal to him as the representative of tho ! Liberal purty. Mr Gladstone, however, wroto declining to grant the desired interviow. In ( his letter ho declared that tho reports . which had been published professing to state tho policy to be pursued by tho Liberal , parly with regard to the Irish question are , equally mischievous and unfounded Iho deputation then appealed to Lord Hartington, : who consented to receive them on January , 21st. They accordingly waited on Lord Hartißgton and urged that tho demands of tho Parnellito party for legislative independence should not bo entertained. Lord Hartington m replying was very guarded m his remarks, , and reticent m hinting what lino of policy ho intended to support.
