DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.

(Br Telegraph.) ■* Feilding, Jan. 23. Yesterday afternoon a firo broke out at Taonui, near Adsett's mill. In a short time the mill and dwelling house wero surrounded by flames. Anumbor of houses occupied by mill hand 3 were destroyed with their contents. Somo of the bush lately felled by Bailey Bros., was abo burnt. The houses along the branch lino of railway had* a narrow escape. On tho alarm being given all i the hands from Bailey's mill turned out nnd [ went to the assistance of Adsett's, taking tho horses and trucks to remove timber, furniture and the family. Tho mill was saved by tho greatest exertions. Upwards of a mile of tramway and a quantity of fencing were destroyed. A shift m tho wind was what actually saved tho mill, which is only partially insured. Tho insurances on the dwelling houses are unknown.
