THE MOUNT COOK TRACK.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMAIttt HERALD. Sin, — I wish to call your attention to a great public injustice, and what I consider a misappropriation of public money. Tho Government voted £1200 for a road to be made to tho Hermitage, Mount Cook, and have entrusted the Mount Cook County Council to have tho work carried out under tho supervision of their Overseer. Instead of this gentleman calling public tenders for tho work, ho i 3 carrying it out by day labor. This is well known to be an expensivo way of doing such work, and, further, tho above gentleman is getting the wholo of tbo supplies for the said work through ono firm here, without giving tho rest of tho ratepayers an opportunity of tendering or even quoting prices. If public money is to bo Bpent m this hole and corner sort of way the sooner wo lcavo the district the better. What are our Council member 3 doing to allow this sort of thing ? I cannot think that it is with their instructions that iho business of the Council is being carried on m this loose way. I am, &c, Ratepayer. Foil-lie Creek, Jan. 16th.
