Our correspondent writes : — To-day was kept a close holiday b,y the Banks and business houses at Waimate. The town appeared as if deserted during tho day, A scratch ma eh of the Cricket Club was player! m Gregson's paddock at which good play was shown. Several parties proceeded to the Hook Bush and other suitable localities for picnics, and the Vuluoteera met for firing practice ot. their target rendezvous at tho foot. of the hills. Tho weather was all that could bo desired to make the duy a highly enjoyable ono.
