W. which went round to the S.W. and S.,and finally settled down to the N.E. with furious head seas. On the 30th, when m lat. 43.26 south and long. 92.26 east, a terrific gale sprang up from the W.S.W. with high confused sea, during which the vessel was hove-to for 20 honrs. The wind Mew with hurricane force until the 2nd inst. , when tbe weather moderated. The heavy sea, however, continued, and at times broKo on board, flooding the decks, and smashed the topgallant rail and deckhouse. Had westerly winds with occasional hail and snow storms to the meridian of Tasmania, and thence W.N.W. till sighting the Solanders on Tuesday ; thenoe fresh winds to Port Chalmers, which she made the following day. She left Port Chalmers on Friday night, and arrived here as above. She conies into port m splendid order, and reflects the greatest credit on Captain Munro and his offioers. Tbe Bio Loge is- an iron brig of 241 tons, and was built at Garston m 1869. Her dimensions arett— Length 122.3 feet, breadth 24.7 feet, and depth 12.8 feet. She brings part of her original cargo of su^iu — the first direct shipmeat of nogar from the Aliuritius to this port. After discharging her inward cargo she will load for a foreign port.
