Castle Hill is a son of the famous Voltigeur, out of Bob-«t-tue-Bowßter, grand-daughter of Touchstone, and half-sister to Blink Bonny, winner of the Derby, Oaks, Park Hill Stakes and many other races. Blink Bonny was dam of Blair Athol, Borealis and Breadalbane. Quamby was a constant performer the season before last, when he won the Harkaway Stakes at the Christchurch Hunt Club Meeting, the Hurdle Handicap with list. 91b. at Ashburton, and the Hurdle Handicap at Timara ; m the last event he carried list. 71b., and beat Canard 12st. 7lb , Melbourne l^st., and two others. In the Grand National with I'st. 81b he was third to Eosciusko lOst. 51b., and Canard 12st. 61b., and m the Steeplechase Handicap at Hawke's Bay was a good second to Clarence 12st. 121 b., beating fourteen others.
