LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Wellington, August 31. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. MOTION FOB ADJOUBNMBNT. The Hon. the Colonial Secretary at onco moved the adjournment of tho Council owing to members having been invited to tako a trip on the Wellington-Manawatu Bailway. Mr Shrimski objected, ns also did Mr Shepherd. The Hon. tho Colonial Secretary said ho was merely carrying out whttt he understood to be the desire of tho Council) but as there were several Bills which could bo disposed of that afternoon, he would withdraw his motion. Tho motion was then withdrawn. SILL I'ASSBD. Tho New Zealand Stato Forests Bill was pasted at 2.60 p.m. ADJOOUNMKNT. The Council then adjourned and resumed at 7.30 p.m. MISCELLANEOUS. Tho Stamp Bill, and the Deceased Porsons Estates Duties Bill were committed, and the latter was rend g> third timo and passod, while tho former was passed on a division by 19 toll. Tho Hon. tho Colonial Secretary formally moved the second reading of tho Bankruptcy Bill, which was agreed to without debate. Tho third readings of tho River Boards Bill end tho Public Reserves Bill wero agreed to, and tho Bills wero passed. Mr Richmond moved tho second reading of tho Patea Harbor Board Bill, which m agreed to. i 'Xh« Council adjourned at 8.25 p.m.
