(By Telegraph.) (Per steanior at tho Bluff.) (Special to tue Melbourne " Aoe.") LoxnoN, August 19. The prospects of the approaching hop crop m England are considered to bo deplorable. Applications are being made on behalf of Victoria nnd New South Wales respectively for increased space at the Exhibition to be opened m London m May next. Thoy are to be met by dividing between those two colonies the space t!iat had been allotted for the purposes of the United Australian Court which was originally proposed to he formed. Cardinal Moian, Archbishop of Sydney, is at present visiting Dublin. August 20. The Governments of Germany and Austria hare expressed themselves as averse to the proposal for an Anglo-Turkish military convention, by which the Sultan agreed to send troops to garrison Souakim. The Standard states that the Sultan hns now declined to carry out the conditions of the alliance, and refuses to send Turkish troops to Egypt. It is rumored that King Alphonso of Spain has resigned the colonelcy of the Uhlan regiment, which was conferred upon him as a mark of special honor during his visit to Germany. August 24. Prince Bismarck has rep'ied to the protest lodged by the Spanish Government against the annexation of the Caroline Islands by Germany. His reply is evasive. A rupture between the two Powers is imminent. Public feeling m Spain is running very high. King Alphonso hns implored Kaiser Wilhelni to disavow the annexation of the islands. The King of Spain fears that if Germany persists m holding the islands he will be dethroned. It is rumored that the settlement of tho dispute between Germany and Spain with regard to the occupation of the Caroline Islands, will probably be effected by compromise. The Nord Deutsche Zeitung confirms the statement that an amicable understanding will be arrived at.
