GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of tho Board was held m the Town Board Office, Geraldino, on Tuesday, the 4th August, 1885. MBMBBBS PKBSKNT. Mr R. H. Poarpoint (Chairman), Messrs J. Huffey, N. Dunlop, J. Mundell, Robert Taylor, W . S. Mnslin and Thomas Farrell. MINUTES. The minutes of tho last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. COMIEBPONDKNCB. Inward correspondence was read and considered as follows : — From Mr Willoughby, stating that ho had forwarded tho Board's letler re ashphalting the footpath m front of tho Police Station to tho Inspector. From tho Hon. W. Rolleston with roforenee to tho Counties' Act Amendment A^t, stating that he would givo tho matter bis best attention. From Mr Tripp, dated 4th July, with reforonco to tho supposed damage done to his section adjoining tho Town Board Office, stating that ho was now satisfied with the explanation given by tbo Board m its letter of tho 2nd July ; also asking the Board to join him m erecting a division fonce witli iron standards, and further enquiring if tho Board would lease tho Bection. Resolved — " That the fence bo orected, but tho Board doclino to lease the section, having no use for it." From Mr William Honry, dated 4th August, asking tho Board to lot him reserve 249 adjoining for a term of 21 years. Resolved "That tho Clerk reply that tenders will bavo to bo invited for letting reserves." Proposed by Mr Dunlop, socondod by Mr Taylor, and carried—" That tho Works Committco ascertain from the map what soctionß uro likely to let to ailvantnge, and advertise thorn for next meeting." From Mr Sutherland and a number of ratepayers asking tho Board to tako steps to clear the crock running through Androws, Stephens', and Coltman's sections, and havo it widened where necessary. Proposed by Mr Mundell, seconded by Mr Huffoy, and carried—" That the Work's Committee m conjunction with tho Overseer attend to what is necessary." From Mr Rolleston, asking to ho furnished witli the viows of tho Board regarding main roads and county roads traversing tho district, and also about the Municipal Act. Tho Clerk ropliod that the information had boen Bent as roquostod. From the Undor-Secrctary, Wellington, forwarding Gazette with reserves and town sections vested m tho Town Board on the lGth July.

The Clerk acknowledged the receipt of the Bame. From the Town Banger, to the effect that ten individuals had been Bummoned during the past month. Some of the members stated that cattle were etill wandering on the streets, notwithstanding the number of owners that had been fined. From Mr C. E. Cooper, forwarding Bank slip of payment of £80 to the Board's credit, for auctioneers' licenses m the town district. The Clerk was requested to acknowledge the receipt of the same. From Mr Hamersley, enclosing his account for professional services. The matter was ordered to stand over until the Chairman (Sir Pearpoint) was present. TENDEES. The following tenders were received for No. 20 Contract :— Patrick Burke, £32; Thoß. Corkery, £24 19s (accepted), also for reserves 1, 2, and 3— Thomas Ward, £5 10a ; J. Huffey and J. Pizzey, £12 ; reserves 4 and s—Tenders5 — Tenders on theso being too low were declined. Reserves 14 and 15a — J. Williams and Sons, £4 10s. Proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Mundell-" That Messrs Huffey and Pizzey's offer bo accepted for 1, 2, and 3 ; J. "Williams and Sons for reserves 14 and 15a." Mr Farrell proposed as an amendment, and Mr Duulop seconded pro forma — " That the highest m each case be accepted." The motion was carried. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chiirnnin brought before the Board the matter of the drain complained of near Mr Ramble's. _Be.=dlved — "Tlinfc the Works Committee, with the Overseer, inspect the drain and have the necessary work attended to." The Chairman here asked permission to leave, and on the motioa of Mr Mundell Mr N. Dunlop was voted to the chair. Proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Taylor, nnd carried— " That Messrs John Huffey, Thomas Farrell, and John Mundell be the Works Committee for the ensuing month." Proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Huffey, and carried— " That the agent for Mr William Essery receive a notice to take down the chimney on his premises on R. 8. 8904, the same being dangerous to persons passing by." Mr Maslin proposed the motion of which, previous notice had been given, and Mr Taylor seconded, and it was carried — " That the resolution be now rescinded which was passod on the 4th of June having reference to the Hanger reporting all names to tho Board of owners of impounded cattle before suing, and that the by-law be carried out m every case m future." ovebsbbe'b bhpoet. The Overseer's report was read and considered, and the following resolutions passed thereon:— (l) That the Overseer m conjunction, with the Works Committee inspect and report the cost and practicability of bringing m a flow of water to flush the drains and side channels m the town ; (2) that tho Overseer have gravel put on the Main Road, Peel street, Pine street and Waihi Terrace Road, according to his report. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £61 17fl lid were received and passed for payment. PEBSON'AL. Mr Thomas Farrell, who was present after his trip to the Old Country, thanked tho Board for their kindness m granting him leave of absence while he was away, as leave had been granted after he Lad started on his trip. BOABD OF IIEALTH. The Board then resolved itself into a Board of Health. The Inspector of Nm'sanees' report was read, stating that although a few matters needed special attention, yet he was happy to say that the persons concerned had m some instances remedied the nuisance, and m other cases it would be attended to at once. The Board considered tliat the sanitary state of the town was very favorable. The Board then adjourned until Tuesday, Ist Sept., at 7.30 p.m.
