THE NEW ZEALAND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
(By Telegkaph.) Wellington, August 4. Tho weather is etill cold and stormy, and m consequence the attendance at the Exhibition thia afternoon was not largo. None of the gentlemen who are to make the awards hare yet been appointed, and the manner m which they will be appointed is as follows : — A Local Committee m each town of the colony will meet exhibitors m each place and nominate suitable persons to act as Judges ; at tho same time each local Committee will select a couple of gentlemen residing cither permanently or temporarily at Wellington to act as a jury. The names of the persons nominated as judges, as well as thoae of the jury, will be forwarded to the Executive of the Exhibition, who will then request the jury to decide what gentleman shall mako awards. Mr Thomas' cantata is m a rery forward state of preparation, and it is considered tho composition will bo quite ready for the opening of tho Homo Industry branch on tho 22nd inst. Tho test of the programme ordered by tho Musical and Ceremonial Committee eomo weeks ago will probably take placo this day week. Tho gentlemen who have been asked to judge as to tho merits of the cantata arc Messrs Parker Weßt, W. D. Mackintosh, and F. D. Fenton. Should their report be of a satisfactory character, the Musical and Ceremonial Committee will grve instructions to Mr Thomas to produco the composition at the opening of the Home Industry Branch. Tho electric light arrangements are progressing satisfactorily, and it is expected that tho light will be shown from a mast m the courtyard to-morrow ovoning. The firm who aro carrying out tho work aro also making electric light for sovcral exhibitors.
