Coates, Cbristchurch, £7064 ; T. Hannan and Co., Oamaru, £9139. The agents of the Coptic have not yet received any advice of the arrival of the Coptic at the Cape. The Gear Meat Company have received an order from the Admiralty for 900 cases of preserved meat for the China station. In the case against Gordon, a chemist, for selling " Rough on Bats " without a poison label, a fine of one shilling and costs was inflicted. A similar fine was imposed on Mcc for having sold the same compound without registering it. An analysis of it showed that a box of it consisted of pure mercantile arsenic worth about a balf-penny. Geeymocth, Aug. 2. A glove fight took place on Saturday night between Mathews, the American, and O'Loughlin, a Brunnerton coal-miner, for £10 a side, Mathews undertaking to knock out his opponent m four three-minute rounds. Before the 3econd round was half over, O'Louglilin was Bent prostrate and knocked out of time with a blow under the ear. Both men were about a weight, but Mathews is two inches taller and longer m the reach. Chbistcihjbch, Aug. 2. At a conference of North Canterbury Rifle Clubs it was decided to request Government to enrol members of the Clubs for defence purposes on similar terms as m Victoria. It was also resolved to form a Rißo Association for Canterbury.
