(By Telegraph.) Auckland, July 24. A Bank clerk named Blundell, formerly resident at Auckland, but now in Sydney, applies for a dissolution of marriage, on the ground of the alleced adultery of his wife with a man named Hager, of Whangaroa. At the iuquest on tho late Princes street fire, the jury returned a verdict that tho fire was occidental. A new trial is to be applied for in the libel cose Elliott v. Hancock, on tho ground of tho damages being excessive and tho verdict contrary to the evidence A petition to the Assembly is in course of signature, praying for rolief work for the unemployed, as the City Council are unable to 6nd employment for them. But few signatures have been yet obtained. A meeting of citizens was held to-night, the Mayor presiding, to inaugurate a movement for a memorial in memory of tho late Mr John Sheehan, M.H.R. A strong committee, representing all parts of the colony, and containing tho names of many members of tho Legislature, was appointed to consider the matter, and report to a future meeting as to what form the memorial should assume. Already £550 have been collected for the Fire Brigade Intercolonial Competition, besides £80 in trophies. The first prizes in principal events range as high as £115, with second and third prizes in proportion. It has been resolved by tho Committee to give £60 as a bonus to be divided amongst Australian teams, provided that not less than three teams compete. The prize money and trophies are expected to amount to nearly £700, or moro than three times as much ns was given last year in Dunedin, and moro than double the sum given at the great intercolonial competition at Bnllarnt. An effort is to bo made to get tho Union S.S. Company to carry- the visiting teams at reduced rates. At the close of the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday a motion was tabled condemnatory of the proposals of Government re tho East and West Coast railway. Several members spoke in its favor beforo tho Chairman ruled it to be out of order, the meeting being a special one to consider tho \Fri9co mail service subsidy only. Nblson, July 24. At a meeting of tho City Council of Nelson to-night a resolution was carried unanimously — " That this meeting entirely agrees with the proposals of Government on the subject of the Nelson nnd East and West Coast railways, and that this resolution be telographed to the Government."
